After a bit of waiting, I finally got my watch back.
About a year ago, my Omega Seamaster started indicating that it needed a battery replacement (This is done by pausing for 5 seconds, then rapidly incrementing the second hand by 5 seconds). I finally got the opportunity to take it in and get the battery replaced. Being that it is sealed at the factory for it's water resistance, I couldn't just take it to any jeweler and have the battery replaced. I had to take it to a jeweler that actually deals with Omega so they can send the watch to them for the battery replacement.
One of the other things I wanted to get adjusted was the 'minute indicator' ring that is in the watch. It was shifted about 20 minutes from the last battery change. So off to Omega my watch went, and after about 1 week, I get a call from the jeweler.
"We heard back from Omega, and there is more to be done than just the battery."
"Okay, what needs to be done"
"There are many parts that need to be replaced due to water damage"
I knew about the water damage, but the watch was functioning just fine.
"So how much?"
"$500.00 to get everything done"
...
So you could imagine what was going through my head. Five hundred bucks to get my watch fixed. Considering that this was a gift from my mom back in 1992 (or was it 93) and I have worn it almost every day, I couldn't just have them not fix it. So I told them to go ahead with the work order and I will worry about the cost when it gets back.
Fast forward to a few days ago. I got the call from the jeweler after about 1 months time. My watch was in and it was time for me to pick it up. I never really got the chance to get it, so Tammy went and picked it up for me.
Let me just say that the watch looks just like new, and possibly even better. The face on the watch is updated, and is brand new. I guess they don't have the same face as the one that came originally with the watch, so I got an updated version. New face, new hands and a number of other new pieces. Polished all up and it's just perfect.
I'm glad I have my watch back - I just need to be sure to tighten the adjustment screw the next time it gets wet!!!
